Defragment Your Hard Drive
1. Right-click the hard drive you want to defragment andopen the Properties dialog box shown in.
2. Click the Tools tab and click the Defragment Now button.
3. From the dialog box, you can either
set up a regularly scheduled defragmentation or choose
to defragment your disc immediately.
Because you probably don’t leave your laptop running all the time,
the scheduled defragmentation probably won’t work well. It’s better to remember to defragment manually every week.
4. Let the process run. The computer notifies you when it’s
finished.
5. The defragmentation process moves chunks of data
closer together on the hard drive, making file retrieval
quicker and easier. Defragging your hard disk regularly
keeps your system running smoothly.
Depending on how long ago you defragmented your drive, it can
take a little time. Let the process run completely before you move
on to other tasks on your laptop
