Set Up Windows Defender to Protect Your Computer

Set Up Windows Defender

to Protect Your Computer

1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.
2. Select the Check This Computer’s Security Status link
under Security to open the Windows Security Center.
3. Click the Windows Defender link in the left column. If
Windows Defender is turned off, you’re asked to click a
link to activate it.
4. Click the Check for Updates Now button to download all
available data for the program to use.
5. Click the Scan button at the top of the window to start
the Windows Defender quick scan.
6. Click the arrow next to the Scan button to choose a full
or custom link.
Full and custom scans are valuable if you have rampant spyware
infections or you suspect a specific Internet or network location has
infected your laptop.
7. Choose Tools?Options in Windows Defender to examine the quarantine area for spyware caught in the scans.
Windows Defender only protects against spyware and other lowlevel infections. You still need to use full virus-protection software,
such as Symantec, Macafee, or AVG to keep your system fully
protected
