Use the Notification Area

Use the Notification Area

1. On the right end of the taskbar,
notice the notification area. It generally shows the icons
of programs on your laptop that are running in the
background.
A program that’s running in the backgroundis active and performing tasks, but it has no open windows and isn’t under your direct
control. You use the icons in the notification area to control different programs and processes, depending on your laptop’s setup.
2. Hover the cursor over an icon to see the name of the
process that’s running.
3. Double-click the icon to display the options for that
program or process.
4. Right-click an icon to see more options.
5. Depending on how many icons are in the notification
area, you may see a chevron on the left end. Click that
arrow to see additional icons.
The notification area includes many icons related to system
processes, such as audio or network connections. Use the shortcuts
to avoid having to scroll through multiple choices or menus.
Even if you can’t see the programs represented in the notification
area, they’re using system resources. If you see too many programs
in the notification area, open the program options and see whether
you can keep them from starting automatically, if possible
